Elephant attack

Rourkela/Koida: One person was killed in an attack by a tusk elephant in Munda basti of Rengma village under Barsumaen forest area of Sundargarh district. The deceased was Kabi Naik (60) of Rengma village. The old poet was lying in the garden tending his crops. He died on the spot when he got the news that an elephant had arrived in the village and was on his way back home after being bitten by the elephant's tusks on the road.

A team of police and forest department reached the spot and seized the body and conducted further investigation. The family has demanded compensation. Earlier this elephant has killed more than 6 people.

Fearful; Orange warning for 10 districts, 11 cm of rain is possible, advised to be careful of western storm

Bhubaneswar: The effect of Kala Baisakhi will continue in Odisha for the next 4 days. By 9 am on Monday morning, thunderstorm and hailstorm with speed of 40 to 50 km per hour may occur in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh districts. Therefore, orange warning has been issued for the said districts. A yellow warning has been issued due to the possibility of temporary impact on other districts as well. In addition, the public is advised to monitor local weather and take shelter in a safe place during lightning storms. The Regional Meteorological Center has asked the farmers to harvest their crops as there is a risk that the harvestable rabi crops will be affected due to the effects of rain and wind.
