Surat: The Surat Sessions Court today rejected Rahul Gandhi's appeal to stay the verdict of the lower court in which he was found guilty in the 2019 defamation case.
It is worth noting that the Additional Sessions Judge of the Sessions Court heard both sides on the 13th. P. Mogera reserved judgment till April 20.
Expressing his response in this regard, General Secretary of the Congress Party Jayaram Ramesh said, for this, the party will use all the options available in the legal system.
Remember, in 2019, while addressing an election rally in Kolar, Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi said, Why are all Modi supporters thieves? BJP MLA Purnesh Modi filed a criminal defamation case on Rahul's behalf, calling it a defamatory comment against the entire Modi Sangya community.
After being found guilty of defamation and sentenced to 2 years in prison and fined Rs.150,000, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha MP post.
Challenging the lower court's sentence, Rahul Gandhi filed an appeal in the Surat Sessions Court. Rahul's lawyer told the Sessions Court that harsh punishment is unnecessary for such comments. Unfair judgment is given.
